As a provider of NDIS services, you are likely to onboard customers with Autism.
Looking at the figures provided by the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) below, it is apparent that a significant portion of the funding support is allocated to Autism and they are highest disability, well in front of any other category.
Two snapshots further illustrate the growth in Autism* from 2022 to 2023, alongside an increase in funding.
Despite this positive funding trajectory, there remains a gap in support for children, which historically has been limited to capacity building supports. While there is a shift in this trend, there is still considerable ground to cover.
An encouraging development is the Australian Government's initiative to develop the National Autism Strategy, a groundbreaking step forward. To learn more about this strategy, follow the link provided.
Ideally, the conversation will increasingly focus on providing more targeted support where it is necessary, rather than constraining the extent of the funding. This is especially important as the children who initially joined the NDIS at it's inception are now transitioning into adulthood. They have evolving requirements, especially around employment and home living supports.
